Fire safety should be done no matter what the cost, but you can expect to pay between $15 and $40 for a regular home use one. If you have a large house have one per floor that everyone knows how to get to and how to use. If you’re in a small or medium size house then generally one is ok. You might want to get a separate one for the garage if it’s not quick to get to it from the entinguisher’s location in the house. Put the extinguisher in plain site, near a door if possible so you have an exit point if the fire gets too bad.
